WHAT TO EXPECT
The Big Barn is the place to see daily appearances on stage by some of your favourite TV & Radio presenters. There’s the legend that is John Craven who has been a mainstay of the BBC TV schedules for almost 50 years and Matt Baker, who must be the busiest man on TV. They and their celebrity friends such as James Martin and Steve Backshall will be talking about life on, and off, screen with more than a few secrets revealed. Each session you’ll get the chance to ask those burning questions of the presenters and programme makers.
We’ve scoured the BBC archives to show you some of your favourite clips from the television and radio shows; including some you may never have seen or heard before. In our ‘Blue Planet and Beyond’ sessions on Sunday we’ll be showing you amazing photos of the team involved in the filming and some shots from behind the cameras on Blue Planet II when Producer/Director Rachel Butler joins us.
And you won’t want to miss the BBC’s brightest and breeziest weather presenter as Carol Kirkwood celebrates her 20th anniversary on Breakfast TV. She has the best smile on television and some great tales to tell of her television highlights from the last two decades. Helen Skelton is a world record holder and Countryfile presenter all rolled into one; she’ll tell you some of her broadcasting highlights and what makes being part of Sunday night’s best-loved programmes such a great job to have.
If you’ve ever wondered how close you have to get to film a Polar Bear or how cold it is to film underwater in the Arctic, then award winning cameraman Doug Allan is your man. He really is David Attenborough’s favourite cameraman. He’ll be joined by Emmy and Bafta winning sound expert Martyn Harries, who can show you how he makes the sound of a Polar Bear walking across the snow! And you can find out the secret behind Springwatch’s amazing success when the team led by Gillian Burke joins us on stage.
