British Charcuterie is booming, with artisan producers popping up across the country, from the Welsh Hills and Cumbrian mountains to the Cornish shorelines. Join us in the all new British charcuterie tent at BBC Countryfile Live.
This year, on the opening day of BBC Countryfile Live, the very first BritishCharcuterie Awards will take place. These important new awards will be hosted by BritishCharcuterie.live and will have a star-studded panel of judges including Great British Bake Off’s Prue Leith, chefs Angela Hartnett, Adam Handling and Ben Tish, and food writers Xanthe Clay of The Saturday Telegraph and Felicity Cloake of The Guardian.
Charcuterie producers will compete in nine classes, ranging from cured and air dried muscle products (for example prosciutto) to cured and fermented sausages (for example salami). Other categories will include British regional products (for example Bath Chaps or Lincolnshire Chine) and products made from authenticated rare-breed meats. From the winners, a ‘Champion of Champions Product’ and a ‘Champion of Champions Producer’ will also be crowned.
Come along to the British Charcuterie Tent on Thursday August 2nd to watch the judges at work. If you miss the awards, you’ll also be able to meet the farmers, chefs and butchers who are producing these delicacies, sample and buy their meats, listen to talks and watch demonstrations.
