Experience the 2018 STIHL TIMBERSPORTS® British Championship
The Stihl TIMBERSPORTS® British Championship will give audiences a high-octane treat when the original extreme sport returns to BBC Countryfile Live for the third year!
TIMBERSPORTS® is a thrilling logger sports spectacle where competitors use axes and saws in a race to smash through logs in the fastest time possible. The roots of logger sports lie in 19th century Australia, where workers in the timber industry held competitions to determine who was the fastest in a range of wood chopping and sawing events that closely simulated their everyday work. These informal competitions evolved with time into a series of sporting disciplines that require tremendous athleticism, strength, precision and power.
WHAT IS TIMBERSPORTS®?
Today the world’s best athletes compete in national and international events featuring three axe disciplines and three sawing disciplines. Springboard, Underhand Chop and Standing Block Chop are the classic axe disciplines; Single Buck (single-man cross-cut saw), Stock Saw (standard chainsaw) and Hot Saw (tuned, customized chainsaw with up to 80 horsepower) are the sawing disciplines. Athletes compete against each other and the clock, earning points for the fastest times.
